Mail Order Prescriptions?
What's the difference between mail order prescription pharmacies and online pharmacies?
Not much. Mail order and online internet pharmacies both deliver their medications by mail or courier.
The filling of prescriptions by mail pre-dates the rise of the international internet pharmacy industry. Some of the larger pharmacy chains recognized they could save money by filling and shipping prescriptions from a central location. Private insurance companies covering the cost of prescription medication for their customers often insist that patients get their drugs from approved mail order pharmacies to cut costs. Although the way the patient's medications changed, these pharmacies were for the most part still located in the same country or state as their patients.
By comparison, internet drug stores usually concentrate on international business, in particular, the American market. The U.S. has the highest drug costs in the world, and a currency against which all others are based. Toss in the fact that many countries now control drug pricing, and you have a recipe for a great business in cross-border pharmacy. The internet simply provided the means to develop the opportunity.
